Jeff Joseph – Grammacks New Generation

GRAMMACKS… a 1970s musical group from Dominica started in the village of St. Joseph on the West Coast. Anthony “Curvin” Serrant, guitarist Anthony “Tepam” George, bassist Elon “Bollo”, Rodney drummer, and keyboard player McDonald “Mckie” Prosper were the first members. Jeff Joseph and Georges “Soul” Thomas were added soon after. These students hailed from Dominica Grammar School and St Mary’s Academy, hence the name Gramacks, along with Exile One are the originators of the 1978 phenomenon, Cadence Lypso music. This genre, unique to Dominica is an up-tempo form of calypso sang mostly in Antillean Creole and French. It later inspired Zouk music popularized by Kassav in the 1980s and Grammacks rose to prominence in the 1970s early 1980s with a Super Bowl performance to their credit. Jeff Joseph later formed Volt Face and Grammacks New Generation. They headlined the first ever World Creole Music Festival in Dominica. Gramacks Original is now back after many years with a new CD called ‘Get Up’ which was recorded in 2009 in Miami.
